Redland Visits Bella Mesa in Castle Rock

Oct 17, 2024 , , , , , ,

This October, Redland associates took a trip down I-25 to visit the Bella Mesa neighborhood in Castle Rock. A group of associates gained firsthand experience while visiting a recently constructed traffic circle and future development site. The new Bella Mesa traffic circle serves as an entrance into the neighborhood and the nearby middle school. Redland provided civil engineering, landscape architecture and construction management services for the project.

Formerly a T-intersection, Redland was tasked with re-working the busy road into a new traffic circle. During the site visit, our construction manager team shared the intricacies of diverting traffic during construction and working with the city to meet their requirements. The civil engineering manager went into the design considerations for the traffic circle including utilities, crosswalks, traffic studies, and more. Our landscape architects were responsible for irrigation design within medians and ensuring a seamless transition between existing and new landscaped areas.

The group then went North to visit a potential new site that currently resides nearby. Our landscape architecture team shared their primary goals of preservation, education and recreation for the 160 acres of open space and neighborhood park. The site contained multiple outfalls from adjacent properties as well as a handful of other storm water, geological, and natural features to navigate during the design process; our team discussed how it is beneficial to visit sites beforehand in order to understand these elements.
