Gardens on Havana is a 60-acre mixed use redevelopment of the old Buckingham Square Mall, with 270 residential units and 580,000 square feet of retail space. The project lives up to its name, featuring a series of six garden areas, a garden street, and approximately 2,800 linear feet of roadway with garden streetscape frontage.
An undersized storm sewer system, culvert, and regional detention facility were historically the cause of flooding. Redland reduced the chronic drainage problems by increasing on-site detention capacity and rerouting overflows from the existing upstream detention pond. By designing the proposed detention ponds as Extended Detention Basin/Sedimentation Facilities, stormwater quality was enhanced, peak runoff was significantly reduced, and some suspended solids, metals, and nutrients were removed from the runoff.
